The pass connects, the mountain separates. This spell owns something true. Anyway, there are different languages and mentalities on the two sites of the Pizzo Cassinello. The mountain is not only the divide but the frontier between two cultures as well. Humans always wanted to cross this huge barrier. They used a little hack in the fin. But the price for this pass is nearly unimaginable. There isn’t any other pass showing how hard the general living conditions in the valleys of the mountains were, back in the Middle Ages. For bringing their sheeps and goats to the Länta the residents of Ticino from the Valle di Blenio built a steep and dangerous path over the Passo Soreda. They have built this path with their bare hands and primitive instruments. The farmers from Ponto Valentino and Pruciasco used this path for over 700 years every year.
If we pass the Passo Soreda today and have to hold on rocks and chains we get respectful feelings. To climb up to the summit of the Pizzo Cassinello we have to use our head as well as our feet but as reward we get a view over the landscape only beaten by the Rheinwaldhorn.
But for hikers who don’t hike frequently the tour over the Passo Soreda or the Pizzo Cassinello is a piece of hard work.
Anyway, it’s always worth to start this modern and wild tour.
